What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the art and science of getting a website listed at the top of search engine organic results.
When your target market is searching Google or Bing (or any other search engine) for something that you can provide, it’s important that they find your website, not a competing website.
Several factors affect a site’s SEO and search position rankings. Some factors relate primarily to content and more specifically the keywords included on a website. Other factors are primarily technical (things like site speed, mobile friendliness, crawlability, etc..).
I want to launch an SEO strategy. Where should I start?
Clients often come to us knowing they should be investing in their website’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) but not knowing where to start. We always recommend starting by getting a baseline through data. This involves setting up and/or evaluating data from Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Google Tag Manager.
From there we prepare a 15-20 page SEO audit that includes keyword research, competitor analysis, organic traffic review, backlink and crawlability review, and content strategy review. We base our research in an understanding or you business’s goals, and aim to understand the customers you’re targetting and how those customers are searching. We’ll meet with you to explain our findings and discuss next steps. At this meeting we’ll also review an SEO roadmap that overviews actionable items to improve your site’s SEO on an ongoing basis.
What's included in an SEO roadmap?
With every SEO audit, we prepare an SEO roadmap to make recommendations and next steps clear and actionable. These suggested tasks can be completed by you, by us, or a combination. The roadmap includes content strategy suggestions, backlink strategy suggestions, technical crawlaiblity recommendations, and ongoing analytics/reaudit frequency recommendations.
How do you determine what keywords should be used as part of a successful SEO strategy?
An important component of our SEO audit is recommending the best keywords to use for your site. When determining what keywords to use in an SEO strategy, Simpler Site looks into three different keyword variables: Search Volume, CPC (cost per click), and keyword competition. We subscribe to a premium software service to conduct best-in-class keyword research based on these three variables.
I heard that crawlability is an important part of SEO. What does this mean?
When search engines such as Google index the entire internet, they use what is called a crawler. The crawlers are continuously “crawling” the internet to index information from each website for the search engine to use when providing search results for a user. To help improve SEO, you want your website setup for the crawlers to easily crawl and gain the correct information about your website.
Examples of factors that affect crawlability are a site’s mobile friendliness, a site’s organizational structure, the amount of fresh content, the accessiblity of site maps, and the elimination of any broken links. You can learn more about this in our blog post “The Four Pillars of SEO: Crawlability“
How does user engagement affect SEO?
he purpose of user engagement is to ensure users are spending time interacting with your website’s content. Search engines want to ensure they are directing their users to websites where time is spent reading/engaging in the content.
A couple main factors that indicate strong user engagement for a website are page speed load time, fresh website content, and user interaction with website (for example, people spend time reading content and don’t exit your site immediately).
Simpler Site can support the content and technical strategies to improve your site’s user engagement and SEO.
Can you help launch/maintain my Pay Per Click (PPC) strategy?
Yes! Clients often come to us with a desire to complement their SEO strategy with a Pay Per Click (PPC) strategy. This works well to help you quickly connect with customers in the short term, while you get your long term SEO strategy off the ground.
To support a successful Pay Per Click (PPC) strategy, we begin with keyword and cost per click current state analysis. What keywords should you be targetting? What should the bidding strategy be? In this phase we also evaluate competitors.
After this initial research is complete, we write PPC campaign ad copy, determine a bidding strategy, set up conversion tracking, and launch the campaign. We follow a continuous learning approach, reevaluating campaigns and adjusting strategy based on the results we’re seeing. Our goal is to support long-term campaign optimization, and we’re dedicated to driving the very highest ROI possible for your business to grow.
