Thanksgiving Keywords + SEO Difficulty

With Thanksgiving upon us, I thought it would be fun to do a little SEO keyword research focusing on some foods of Thanksgiving.  Below is a table showing Thanksgiving SEO keywords with Search Volume / Month and SEO Difficulty.

An SEO variable I want to highlight with the SEO keyword research is SEO Difficulty.  The higher the number, the more difficult it will be to rank highly for the keyword.  If you are looking to gain exposure as a company with a new website, a constant theme from Google Office Hours is to find a niche or long tail keywords.  This would mean to focus on keywords with low SEO difficulty.  Review the table below to see how this applies to Thanksgiving keywords.

Review the previous SEO blog post about keyword relevance for more information on search volume and SEO difficulty.  This data is taken from trusted SEO software.

SEO Data Takeaways: What It Means

Keywords with high volume per month have a significantly higher SEO Difficulty.  This is what would be expected as high volume keywords can be very valuable to businesses.

If we were keyword hunting for a high volume low SEO difficulty, the following are good keywords to focus on:

  • “how to cook smoked turkey wings”
  • “how to cook a turkey in a convection oven”

If we are keyword hunting for low SEO difficulty, the following are good keywords:

  • “bacon and bourbon thanksgiving stuffing”
  • “not enough mashed potatoes for thanksgiving answers”
  • “thanksgiving and the pumpkin pie worksheet”
  • “how to cook a turkey worksheet”

From the data, say you are a restaurant looking for more exposure around Thanksgiving.  A good article to post on your website could be “The best bacon and bourbon Thanksgiving stuffing recipe” or “What to do when there are not enough mashed potatoes for Thanksgiving”.  These articles can more easily be ranked on Google Search, which can in turn give the business exposure.
